Knowledge and Technology Transfer: Implementing Energy Research
In order to better implement the findings and results of energy research, in a first project we developed a concept as well as a collection of tools for knowledge and technology transfer (KTT) within the framework of the new funding instrument SWEET “SWiss Energy research for the Energy Transition” of the SFOE. In a second project, a KTT toolbox was developed as a creative implementation product.
The goal of SWEET is to promote innovations that are necessary for the successful implementation of the Energy Strategy 2050 and the achievement of the Swiss climate goals.
Starting point
In June 2020, the SFOE’s new SWEET funding program started with its first thematic call for proposals. Knowledge and technology transfer from the numerous future consortium projects and between the actors of the innovation system plays a key role. In addition, there is already a lot of KTT experience from other national and international research programs (e.g. SCCER, NRP, Horizon 2020).
Objectives
Develop an overarching KTT concept for SWEET (program & consortia level) that defines a clear framework of requirements while actively supporting the consortia in their KTT actions with a KTT toolkit and also fostering their collaboration. The KTT concept is then mainly carried and implemented by the consortia, with subsidiary coordination by the SFOE. The product of the first project is an English-language report.
The aim of the second project is to develop a creative implementation product for knowledge and technology transfer: a KTT toolbox.
Project 1: Concept and tools collection as report
The inspiring report “Reframing Knowledge & Technology Transfer for Swiss Energy Research – 30 Tools & Recommendations for the SWEET Funding Programme” offers stimulating support for knowledge and technology transfer: numerous illustrations, the morphological box as a systematics and the best 30 tools briefly explained!
The final report Reframing KTT for SWEET is available and has also been published on ARAMIS, the information system on federal research and innovation projects.
Project 2: Implementation product as KTT toolbox
Building on the concept and collection of tools, a creative implementation product for knowledge and technology transfer was developed: the KTT Toolbox. This box comprises 30 cards on which attractive KTT tools with a focus on dialog methods are attractively presented and clearly described. The 5 selection criteria direction of information flow, group size, attention duration, budget and qualification as well as additionally the project phase (6 phases) allow to find tools for KTT work that fit perfectly.
The beautiful design of the cards and especially the punch card system, which enables the easy and quick criteria selection with the enclosed wooden stick and thus leads to the individual selection of the most suitable tools, provide a new approach to knowledge and technology transfer for project and KTT managers.
The toolbox can be ordered now here in the WSL e-Shop for a contribution towards costs. If you have any questions, please contact Anna Roschewitz.
