novatlantis conducted two studies for the Taiwanese research institute Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) on the topic of the “2000-Watt Society”.
2000-Watt Society
In an initial situation analysis, the vision and implementation of the 2000-Watt Society in Switzerland and other countries was compiled. The evaluation of specific applications such as the 2000-Watt Site certification or the self-declaration for cities “Fit for the 2000-Watt Society” offer insights into the experiences of Switzerland and are analyzed in view of the conditions in Taiwan. The study analyzed drivers and success factors for the successful implementation in Switzerland and other countries and evaluated barriers that have to be considered in country-specific contexts. The evaluation was based on national and international best practice examples, interviews with experts and the 2000-Watt Society methodology originally developed by ETH Zurich. Based on these, recommendations were derived for a possible application of the 2000-Watt concept in Taiwan.
This study was completed in autumn 2018 by a workshop at the Industrial Technology Research Institute in Taipei, Taiwan.
2000-Watt Sites
In a second study, 2000-Watt Sites were analyzed in more detail. The certification method for 2000-Watt Sites were explained and in particular the qualitative criteria catalogue was looked at in detail. Based on technical literature and case studies, favourable framework conditions and success factors were identified and examined for possible applications in Taiwan.
