novatlantis supported the city of Aarau from 2017 to 2018 in developing a Smart City concept. In close cooperation with the city as well as the energy supplier Eniwa, novatlantis managed the project office, moderated workshops and contributed with findings from literature, applied research and other cities to the formation of a (political) basis for decision-making. In this project phase, the focus was on the analysis of internal administrative projects, processes and procedures. The aim of the project was to develop a broadly based concept within the administration, which would contribute to a common understanding and a conscious handling of Smart City topics, e.g. the application of digitalisation and modern technologies for innovative services and sustainable urban development. Within the framework of the concept development, the ‘Smart City’ legislative goal 2019 – 2023 was defined. An in-depth study in the field of ‘Smart City and Participation’ served as a basis for the further procedure to develop the Smart City Strategy within the city (from 2019).
The project was supported by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (Energy Switzerland) within the framework of the “Energy City” programme.
